K9's of the Carolinas
K9′s of the Carolinas began in 2009 under the moniker Flying Dogs of Greenville. The original intention for Flydog was to be a brand new disc dog and canine athletics club in the Greenville, North Carolina, area; encompassing canine sports of all kinds, not just canine disc. However, things didn’t turn out quite as planned which lead to the creation of an individual crew of dogs to which you see today.

K9′s of the Carolinas was born in the fall of 2010 when Team Eko handler, Lindsay Thompson, began the search for a more serious competitive dog to train. This lead to the decision to add an Australian Cattle Dog to the mix. Lindsay was given the opportunity to bring an ACD mix by the name of Brick (formerly know as Banjo) into the pack during December of 2010 and thus began the new dynamic duo of Team Eko and Team Brick for KOTC.

Eko, the boxer, began to show an interest in the game of disc in late 2008 following a family trip to a local skate park where the first disc she ever saw was originally bought to use as a water dish. Once Eko and Lindsay arrived home, Eko began to carry the disc everywhere she went. Inside, outside, it didn’t matter. She had the disc with her.

Upon seeing this, Lindsay decided to try her hand at throwing to evaluate how Eko would respond. Eko showed great enthusiasm and despite a terrible throw, she exuberantly chased down the disc. This began the search for tips and training on how to teach a dog to catch a disc and the beginnings of a new era in Lindsay’s life.

In the summer of 2009, Lindsay met Todd Duncan and had the opportunity to visit his Georgia home for training. While there, she and Eko began learning the basics of freestyle and drive building. Lindsay also had the opportunity to play with a few of his dogs including K2, a JRT, and to watch Todd and his ACD mix, Levi, throw down a world class jam.

Now, in their second year of serious competition, Eko and Lindsay have greatly improved their game. Eko has won a nice, modest collection of awards and has been the hit of many competitions simply because she is not of the standard herding breeds typically thought of as disc dogs.

Brick, in his short time as a part of KOTC, has held his own against his adoptive sister by placing 3rd in the intermediate freestyle division of his first competition as a part of his new pack. He’s also had great showings at recent events in Lakeland, Florida, and is on schedule to do great things throughout his career with KOTC. Stay tuned for upcoming information on the happenings of these two crazy disc dogs as they take the disc dog nation by storm.
